"The News"

Is this man the business owner waiting for a customer, simply taking a break, or a patron of the business?
A popular painting, the subject is abstracted and yet captures the essence of a man reading a newspaper. He is so absorbed in the news, he is unaware of being observed.

I like the directness of the brushwork and the soft color combination capturing the city shop fronts. The man sitting alone, suggests the duality of how man is alone within his thoughts, excluding the outside world - yet being of the world.
